The Philippines national flag is red, white, and blue, has an eight rayed golden sun and three five pointed stars inside a white triangle at the left side of the flag. This flag design was created by General Emilio aguinaldo. The three golden stars in the corners of the triangle represent the three Philippine Island groups. The islands are: - Luzon - Visayas - Mindanao The eight sun rays on the flag represent the eight provinces that stood up to the might of the Spanish. Those provinces are: - Manila - Cavite - Bulacan - Pampanga - Nueva Ecija - Bataan - Laguna - Batangas When the Philippines is in peace, the color blue will be on the top part of the Philippines flag. (The flag to the left at the top of the page means peace) When the Philippines is in war, the flag's colors will be turned upside down with the red on top and the blue on the bottom. (The flag to the right at the top of the page means war) The Filipino flag at half mast indicated mourning. The flag shall also be hung half mast if there is and official announcement of the death of any of the following: - The President of former President (flag hung half mast for a period of ten days) - The Vice President, Chief Justice, the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives (flag hung half mast for a period of seven days)
